The Old Man and the Sea 

1990, TV-Movie

Gary played a supporting role in this film based on the Ernest Hemingway novel. As Tom Pruitt, a writer who was struggling to produce his next story, he became caught up in the troubles of the old fisherman Santiago, finding meaning to his own life in the process. Anthony Quinn portrayed Santiago, while Patricia Clarkson played Tom's wife. Buy it on VHS
 

Son of the Morning Star 

1991, TV-Miniseries

Gary portrayed General George Armstrong Custer in this story told from the a slightly different viewpoint. He manages to capture Custer's arrogance and many peculiarities while still making him a sympathetic character. It's a large, sweeping film, co-starring Rosanna Arquette, Rodney Grant, Dean Stockwell and David Strathairn.  Buy it on VHS!
 

The Switch 

1993, TV-Movie

Gary was terrific in this film conveying the emotions of Larry McAfee, who was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident. Angry and frustrated with a system that drains him of his insurance money and leaves him in one nursing home after another, he sues for the right to have a switch installed on his ventilator that will allow him to turn the machine off. This unusually complex portrayal of the issues of "quality of life" is one of Gary's best performances.  This true story also starred Craig T. Nelson.
 

In the Line of Fire 

1993, Feature Film 

Gary played a supporting role in this film as Clint Eastwood's difficult young boss, Bill Watts, always at odds with Eastwood's Secret Service agent, who is trying to deal with past demons and a present villain. Other cast members include Rene Russo and Gary's Steppenwolf colleagues, John Malkovich and John Mahoney.  Buy it on VHS or DVD!
 

When Love Kills: The Seduction of John Hearn 

1993, TV-Miniseries

As Vietnam veteran John Hearn, Gary portrayed a dreamer always looking for a way to a better life for himself and his young son. His plans took a turn to the dark side when he met up with Debbie Bannister, played by Marg Helgenberger, who had an agenda of her own, in which John became a pawn. Gary did an effective job of portraying the agony of a man torn between love and his desire to do the right thing in this film based on a true story.
 

Twilight Zone: Rod Serling's Lost Classics 

1994, TV-Movie

Gary played James in this segment of a special based on unfilmed episodes of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone. His character, a physician, was the supportive boyfriend of Amy Irving, who continually sees what may be her own dangerous future reflected on the screen of a revival cinema. Watch carefully for his first appearance!
 

A Time to Heal (Jenny's Story) 

1994, TV-Movie

In this film, based on a true story, Gary played attorney Jay Barton, the husband of Jenny, a young mother who has a stroke just after the birth of their second child. She struggles against going to therapy and learning how to live again and he supports her through her long road back to recovery--but has issues of his own to deal with. His co-star is Nicollette Sheridan.
 

Fall From Grace 

1994, TV-Miniseries

In this British television film, Gary played Tom, an American stationed in Germany during World War II. His performance stands out among a cast that includes such British notables as James Fox, Michael York, and Patsy Kensit.  Purchase the VHS tape
 

The Brady Bunch Movie 

1994, Feature Film

Gary uncannily captured the spirit of Mike Brady in this ode to the 1970s television series. His vacuous expressions and permed wig added to his dead-on impersonation of the late Robert Reed, and he got terrific reviews in this role! This film really allowed Gary a showcase for his comedic talents. Shelley Long co-starred.  It's available on VHS.  
 

Cyclops, Baby.. 

1994, Short Feature Film 

His protrayal of creepy southern deputy Bertram Manks in this film showed that Gary was capable of playing a blackhearted character with no remorse. He terrorizes a young yuppy couple who made the mistake of not coming to a full stop at a stop sign in his jurisdiction. You're never quite sure just what to believe in this independent film. Both violent and darkly funny, it co-stars Josh Charles, Kelly Rutherford and Geoffrey Lewis.
 

American Gothic 

1995-96, TV Series 

This underrated and underpromoted series starred Gary as Sheriff Lucas Buck, who runs the town of Trinity, South Carolina....and just might be the devil himself, or his close personal friend. Gary's portrayal of the charming, evil Lucas Buck is one of his most memorable performances. His co-stars included Lucas Black, Brenda Bakke, Nick Searcy, Paige Turco, Jake Weber and Sarah Paulson. A Very Brady Sequel 

1996, Feature Film

Gary reprised his role as Mike Brady, the father who never runs out of pithy advice in this sequel toThe Brady Bunch Movie. Mike is a bit more flustered this time around, but Gary is still eerily accurate in his impression of Robert Reed. He also makes a brief cameo in the Hawaii sequence looking a bit more like himself. Shelley Long and Tim Matheson co-star.  Buy it on VHS tape.
 

For My Daughter's Honor 

1996, TV-Movie

In this fact-based film, Gary protrays Pete Nash, a high school football coach who seduces a 14-year-old student. He gives an interesting performance, progressively changing his method of attracting her to increasingly adult levels as their relationship reaches more adult plateaus. Nicholle Tom co-stars; watch for Gary's wife, Teddi Siddall, as Pete's wife. (Did you love the song that Pete gave to his victim? It's "O What a Thrill" from The Mavericks' "What a Crying Shame" CD--and the whole CD is terrific.)
 

Lies He Told 

1997, TV-Movie

Gary played David Bay, a war hero who just can't adjust to everyday life in this film based on a true story. A married man with two sons, he falls in love with another woman and fakes his own death to be with her. When his life with his new wife develops financial problems, he falls back on his danger-laden background to solve them. Co-starring with Gary are Karen Sillas and Teddi Siddall.
 

Santa Fe 

1997, Feature Film

This romantic comedy-drama takes aim at Sante Fe's New Age healers and gurus. Gary protrays Paul Thomas, a cop who leaves to join a cult--a cult which ends in violence. Swearing off the spiritual quest that has haunted him most of his life, he tries in vain to avoid meeting Eleanor (Lolita Davidovich), a spiritual advisor--but when he does, he ends up falling in love with her. The film also stars Tina Majorino, Sheila Kelley and Jere Burns.
 

Gang Related 

1997, Feature Film

Gary plays Richard Simms, the supervisor and friend of an undercover DEA agent killed by bad cops who think he's a drug dealer. When the cops try to cover up what really happened, Gary's character wants some answers! Gang Related also stars James Belushi, Tupac Shakur, James Earl Jones and Dennis Quaid. And don't let the title fool you, or keep you away--it has nothing to do with gangs, and is actually an extremely dark comedy. Purchase it on VHS tape.
 
 

I'll Be Home for Christmas 

1998, Feature Film

A spoiled rich kid (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) has to hitchhike his way across the country--wearing a Santa Claus suit--in order to get the Porsche his father promised him for Christmas.  Meanwhile, his girlfriend may be leaving him for another guy.  Gary plays the coddling dad in this comedy from Arlene Sanford, who also directed him in A Very Brady Sequel.  Others in the cast include Jessica Biel and Andy Lauer. 
 

A Simple Plan 

1998, Feature Film

When two brothers find a large stash of money in the wreckage of a plane, they decide upon what they think is a simple plan that will allow them to keep the money for themselves. Then Agent Baxter (Gary) shows up to investigate, and the brothers' plan starts to spin out of control. This film, directed by American Gothic executive producer Sam Raimi, also stars Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton and Bridget Fonda. Buy it on DVD or VHS! Office Space 

1999, Feature Film

An everyday guy takes on the corporate culture in this first live-action comedy directed by  King of the Hill and Beavis and Butthead creator Mike Judge.  Gary is his heartless boss who makes his life miserable.   The film also stars Jennifer Aniston, Stephen Root and Alexandra Wentworth.  It is based on an animated short, Milton, done by Judge several years ago. 
 

Crusade

1999, TV Series

Gary plays Captain Matthew Gideon, commander of the starship Excalibur, in this thirteen-episode spinoff of Babylon 5.  The Excalibur's mission is to find a way to stop a virus that will wipe out all of mankind within five years.  Capt. Gideon is in charge of the mission--but he's a man with a secret!  Others in the cast include Carrie Dobro, Peter Woodward, Daniel Dae Kim, Marjean Holden and David Allen Brooks. 
 

Kiss the Sky 

1999, Cable Film

Two successful businessmen, frustrated and bored with their careers and families, decide to seek new meaning in their lives by journeying to the Philippines. There they become involved with a young woman who changes their outlook on life, and the repercussions of that relationship sends them each in a new, unexpected direction.
